Do brands dream of AI sheep
We used AI image-generation to have customers create a branded experience that felt dream-like but also quirky. This experience would then develop into a theme-world that had been put together by the customers to shop in and from.
Team
For this project I worked with a Senior UX/UI Designer, two developers consulting on the AI -model generation possibilities and were supervised by a Lead UX/UI Designer.
Process
As a first approach, we designed an interface in which disparate concepts would be blended together in order for the AI to create a dream-looking image mix. The idea was for the customer to pick different, very dissimilar concepts, and combine them to get otherworldly results. A simple example was a jungle environment combined with a children’s room, or a 60’s space station with a kitchen.
Every choice made by the user in the drop-down menu would create a piece of the technical prompt that would be given to the AI in order to form a full sentence, which would in turn be worked out into a background image. This would result in an evolving visual concept as the user made choices in the interface until reaching the final output. Once the user had combined all of these concepts, they would expand to a full layout with products on sale related to the commercial choices included: kitchen, children’s room, etc.
As a concept, this project was initially tailored for a generalist e-shop such as to have the possibility of more products to show in the final results and for this to allow us unlimited creativity in the concepts for the AI to combine.
However, this interaction was thought-out and designed as a template that could be quickly redesigned to cater to different brands, which would then make use of their bespoke AI-image generation for a fully customized brand experience.
The initial proof of concept made use of Midjourney to create the images, which are often imperfect upon close inspection. Once a brand acquired the concept, however, a proprietary AI solution would be used in order to create these images, avoiding possible copyright issues.
Through this specific AI training, the images of the specific brand could be woven into the images the AI would dream up and be directly clickable and available for purchase.
